iOS 16, the next version of the iPhone operating system, is just around the corner. As is the norm, it is expected that Apple will announce this software renewal – or its main features, at least – on June 6 within the framework of WWDC 2022, its annual conference for developers.
Now, days before this happens, we begin to know the first brushstrokes of what the Cupertino firm will reveal to the world on the appointed date.
iOS 16: the lock screen in the spotlight
Mark Gurman reveals this Sunday in Bloomberg several of the keys to this system update, which will bring several aesthetic changes. Among the main ones will be some focus on the iPhone lock screen, to make it more useful.
Thus, Gurman assures that “Apple plans great improvements in the lock screen”. As for which? The journalist points out that the firm will introduce wallpapers with extra capabilities, with widgets or the like, to be able to execute more actions without having to completely unlock the terminal. Additionally, iOS 16 would integrate support for a future “always-on” feature. That is, keep the iPhone screen showing certain information at all times, such as the time or notification icons. A function that is already found in the Apple Watch and other competing smartphones, and that would now be possible in the iPhone thanks to the dynamic refresh rate of the screen, being able to stay on to show a minimum of content without this having a huge impact on autonomy. However, this function would be reserved for the next iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, even though the dynamic refresh rate is present in the current iPhone 13 and 13 Pro Max.
Better notifications and multitasking with iOS 16
iOS 16 would also come with improvements focused on increasing the use of notifications. Additionally, both the iPhone operating system and iPadOS 16 would bring new features in window management and multitasking.
With ever-increasing processing power and greater professional focus, Apple seeks to give users more opportunities to make these devices work-focused tools with an effective ability to execute multiple actions at the same time.
Other news that Gurman says will be presented at WWDC 2022:
Improvements to the Messages app in iOS 16. More social features would be added.
What’s New in tvOS. Focused on improving its capabilities to control the smart home.
Redesign of System Preferences in macOS. New functions and ways of managing settings would arrive.
New features in the Health app. For both iPhone and Apple Watch.
Changes in watchOS. They would affect the navigation mode on the Apple Watch, and the spheres and a power-saving mode would be added.
