However, if you want to prevent other users, especially strangers, from using this personal information to locate your profile on the platform, Facebook has a series of privacy options that will allow you to control who can search for you with the help of this data.
How to control who can find you on Facebook?
This setting can be enabled both from a smartphone and from a computer. Here are the steps to follow depending on the device you use:
From computer:
- Login to Facebook and log into your account
- Press the down arrow button ▾ in the upper right corner of the screen
- Click Settings & Privacy, then Settings
- From the left column panel access the Privacy tab
- Go to the section How others can find and contact you
- Modify the settings on who can find you on Facebook with your email address and/or phone number.
From smartphone:
- Open the Facebook app from an iOS or Android device
- Tap the three-line icon ☰ located in the upper right corner of the screen
- Scroll down to the Settings & Privacy section and click Settings
- Go to the Public and visibility section
- Select the option How others can find and contact you
- Edit the settings for who can find you on Facebook with your email address and/or phone number.
Whether you perform this procedure from a computer or mobile device, Facebook will offer you the possibility to choose one of the following privacy parameters to control who can search for you on the social network using said information: everyone, friends of friends, friends, and only you.
