Apple‘s iPhone, in its different versions, has had a historical but side by side with the various devices with the Android operating system: customization. Making an apple device look “customized” by its user is much more complex than those that carry an Android device in their pocket.
There is a little exclaimed truth and that is that it is not entirely true. Yes, Android is more customizable, but that doesn’t mean you can’t edit the content on an iPhone. The iOS operating system has evolved to its most recent version, 15.4, and now has more customization options than in previous years.
The options on an iPhone are so vast now that even the lock screen of an iOS phone can be customized to suit the user.
Next, with information from The Verge, we explain some tips to make your iPhone’s lock screen a multitasking place, personalized and with different options to improve the user experience.
What appears on the lock screen?
The time, date and recent notifications. That’s what we see in the default view of the iPhone’s lock screen almost always, but there are more options.
Other features can be accessed on the lock screen if they are enabled in settings. To choose which features appear, the path is Settings > Face ID & Passcode.
Towards the bottom is a list of features that can be turned off until you unlock your phone, including Control Center, Today View, and other things like the ability to reply to a text directly from the lock screen. By default, all are enabled except USB accessories.
Assuming it’s enabled, swiping down from the top right of the screen on a Face ID-enabled phone, or from the bottom to the top on a Touch ID-enabled phone, reveals Control Center. That’s where you’ll find quick access to things like screen brightness, volume, and Wi-Fi.
Swiping down from the center of the lock screen brings up Siri Search and Suggestions. In the opposite direction, swiping up from the center of the screen reveals older notifications. A swipe from right to left takes you to the camera, and a swipe from left to right opens Today View.
Today View
The Today View panel is where you can add widgets and other things you want to see at a glance without unlocking your phones, such as the weather, calendar, a note, or featured photos.
Some widgets require the phone to be unlocked to use, such as the Google widget for quick search in Chrome, but others offer content that can be enjoyed without unlocking the device.
Today View is also available from the home screen, and that’s where you’ll need to go to start customizing it and adding more widgets. On your home screen, swipe right to access.
Control Center
By default, you’ll find your flashlight, connectivity, and other settings in Control Center, but you can add more features to make them available on your lock screen.
To do this you need to go to Settings and select Control Center, then scroll down to see the options. The user can choose their favourite functions and change their order.
Notifications
On iPhones, notifications can be customized on the lock screen, both in how they look and exactly where they appear.
To change the notification settings for any individual app, the path is Settings > Notifications > Notification style.
Select the app you want to set notifications to, and you’ll find another screen of options. In it, you can completely disable notifications from that app, or adjust them to define how, when, and where it issues an alert.
The Verge shared an example of the Doordash app.
How to change the wallpaper
As simple as going to Settings, Wallpaper and choosing a new background image. You can choose one of Apple‘s static or dynamic moving wallpapers, or choose a photo from your phone’s gallery.
Choose and zoom the image as you like and hit set. There is the option to display it on your lock screen, home screen, or both.
