Access to social networks, in addition to becoming a benefit for the companies behind these platforms, has become a big problem due to the negative consequences that they can generate for certain types of audiences that are exposed to the content generated by users. users.
This is the case of the Instagram social network, which decided to add a new parental control to its platform that allows the user experience of adolescents to be supervised.
This new resource for parents or guardians aims to provide greater control over the use that younger people give to the social network, owned by Meta, through various options within the same platform.
The announcement, which had already been advanced in mid-December 2021, provides tools for parents and guardians to be more involved in the digital life of their children before they reach adulthood.

Among the functions of this new option are:
- Time limit: the new parental control tools allow parents and guardians to know how much time their children or guardians spend on Instagram. In addition, it grants control by allowing them to set limits.
- Control over users that they follow: the new function shows managers which accounts the minors follow and which ones follow them. Adults will also be notified every time they follow a new follower or follow a new account.
- Control over complaints: another function is that parents will be informed when their children are reporting someone on the platform.
This is an excellent way for parents to have more supervisory control over their children’s daily lives in the digital world.
The new Instagram feature has already launched in the United States, but it will be rolling out to the rest of the world in the coming months.
