Androgenetic alopecia is hair loss due to miniaturization of the hair follicle due to androgens. It is the most common type of baldness and affects 70% of men and 40% of women at some point in their lives.

Diagnosing alopecia

Typically, men suffer from falls at the temples and hair loss in the upper area of the head, while in the case of women, the fall is more diffused throughout the upper area of the scalp. Both genetic and environmental factors play an important role.

From the pathophysiological point of view, androgenetic alopecia is linked to the activity of type II 5-alpha reductase, the enzyme responsible for the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone.

To diagnose this pathology we use stress tests, bronchograms, dermatoscopy, webometrics, blood tests with hormonal tests, and mineralograms.

Baldness can be tackled from the therapeutic point of view, either medically or surgically with hair transplants.

However, in medical treatment, various drugs slow down, block, and, in some subjects, reverse (at least for a few years) the process of miniaturization of the hair caused by androgenetic alopecia.

The most important drug is finasteride, which is a type II 5-alpha reductase inhibitor.

Another drug used is minoxidil, which, in addition to being an antihypertensive, used in the hair bulb acts as a stimulant. Most patients treated with minoxidil obtain positive cosmetic results, both in terms of maintenance and growth.

The biostimulation treatment for baldness or hair loss (alopecia) is based on the stimulation and reactivation of the stem cells of the hair bulb, which are in a state of quiescence, through the injection of revitalizing substances based on vitamins (vitamin A, folic acid, vitamin C and vitamin D) and minerals (copper, iodine, iron, selenium, silicon, zinc).

In general, at least six biostimulation sessions are needed, with a distance between them of between 7 and 10 days, to achieve a good result.

After these initial sessions, maintenance cycles are recommended every six months.

To increase the effectiveness of the treatment, this technique can be combined with other aesthetic medicine techniques (needling, platelet-rich plasma -PRP-, carboxytherapy) and also prescribed suitable home treatments.
