Russian customers who wish to purchase an Apple product will no longer be able to do so from the brand’s website since purchases are no longer available from this day.

According to MacRumors, the Cupertino, California-based company has stopped selling iPhones, Macs, iPods and other devices in the region. Through a statement to which EFE had access, the sale of products was temporarily suspended as part of the “punishments” to Russia for the invasion of Ukraine.

While Apple restores device sales again, the page shows the legend “delivery not available” when trying to add a product to the online cart.

The company added in a statement that it had also limited access to the Apple Pay payment system and had stopped offering certain information on maps of Ukraine from its Apple Maps app in order to protect the safety of Ukrainian citizens.

In addition, the Apple App Store will no longer allow applications from the Russian network RT and the Sputnik agency to be downloaded outside of Russia. Likewise, Apple explained that last week it stopped exporting products destined to be sold in the Russian market, such as iPhone or iPad.

“We are very concerned about the Russian invasion of Ukraine and we are with those people who are suffering due to violence,” the company said in its note verified by EFE. The company announced that it will continue to evaluate the situation and said that it is in contact with several governments.

“We join all those around the world who are calling for peace,” Apple added.

Notably, this comes after Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Fedorov wrote a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook asking him to stop device sales and block access to the App Store in Russia.

“I contacted @tim_cook, the CEO of Apple, to block the Apple Store for citizens of the Russian Federation and to support the US government sanctions package!” said the also Minister of Digital Transformation in Ukraine.

In the attached official document you can read the full letter that Cook received. In this, the minister points out that in the middle of 2022 Russian missiles are attacking residential neighbourhoods, kindergartens and hospitals.

Given the situation, the armed and civilian forces will defend Ukraine to the last consequences. “The whole world is repelling the aggressor through the imposition of sanctions – the enemy must suffer significant losses. But we need your support-”, Federov pointed out.

“In 2022, modern technology is possibly the best way to respond to tanks, multiple rocket launches (hrad) and missiles,” the official added.

The petition posted on Twitter had hundreds of comments, in some cases indicating full support for the blockades and in others bewilderment, assuring that customers are not to blame for the military actions.

After months of tension, Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine six days ago that has left more than a hundred dead, according to the UN, although the Ukrainian authorities put the death toll at more than 350. More than 150,000 Ukrainians have fled Ukraine in less than 24 hours, which means that the number of refugees who have entered one of the neighbouring countries now reaches 677,000, explained this Tuesday by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Philippo Grandi.
