The story of Matilda, which is based on the literary work of the English writer Roald Dahl, had already been brought to the big screen in 1996 when it was produced by actor Danny DeVito, who also played Matilda Wormwood’s father.

Dahl’s novel was also brought to the stage in the form of a musical, under the name “Matilda. The Musical by Roald Dahl”, now, this is the version that Netflix decided to make.

The filmmaker Matthew Warchus directed this new adaptation of Matilda, while the musical composition included the participation of comedian Tim Minchin, who worked on the arrangements for the theatrical version.

What is Matilda about?

Matilda tells the story of a gifted girl, good and happy but misunderstood by her family, her parents are not interested in what happens to her and they do not realize her intellectual abilities either. Little by little, Ella Matilda discovers herself and meets people like Miss Miel, who accompanies her on her adventure.

Although the exact date for the premiere of this new adaptation of Matilda is not yet known, it was announced that it can be seen from December 2022.

The first version of Matilda left a mark on an entire generation, the characters remained in people’s memories and now it will be other actors and actresses will form the cast of this classic.

In the first adaptation, Matilda Wormwood was played by Mara Wilson, a child actress who also participated in other successful films such as “Daddy Forever.” Now, the role will be played by Alisha Weir who has participated in other films such as “And now where is Noah?”.

In the 1996 adaptation, the terrifying headmistress of the school and former Olympic athlete was played by German actress Pam Ferris, now, it will be British actress and comedian Emma Thompson who will bring this character to life.

Matilda’s adorable teacher, who takes care of her and is amazed by the skills and abilities of the “genius girl” was played by the American actress Embeth Davidtz, this time the English actress Lashana Lynch will play this character.
