But now this rumor has been strengthened this week thanks to information provided by GlobalData technology analyst Emma Mohr-McClune .


The expert affirmed that, in effect, the next Apple smartphone will no longer have the traditional SIM card (or chip , as it is commonly known), but will begin to implement the eSIM ; however, it will be a progressive adjustment to their phones, since this year iPhone 14 models with and without a SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) slot would be launched.

Emma Mohr-McClune told Apple Insider that ditching the SIM card to migrate to a digital chip can’t be “all at once,” as not all phone companies currently have this option . However, she pointed out that “telecommunications companies must carefully prepare for such an eventuality” and at some point offer users a phone contract without a physical nano-SIM card.

According to experts, although it is an option that would help Apple take advantage of the space currently used by the SIM card in a more powerful battery or another element, it could also mean a conflict if we take into account that in recent years it has presented four different versions of its new phones, which would then mean launching eight different devices : half with a SIM and the other half without it.

In addition to this, an impressive advertising and marketing campaign would be required to explain to users that there are devices without a “chip” and that they must make a contract for the eSIM because otherwise, Apple would face a wave of returns of its new iPhone looking for one that does have the slot.
