During the first half of January, the Gmail application reached the incredible mark of 10 billion downloads on the Play Store , an achievement that reveals Google’s efforts to make its free email service one of the best options on the market, either due to the huge variety of resources or integration with other company apps.
Despite not being frequently updated by the developer, the web version of Gmail was contemplated this year with a redesign of its interface in order to make it more practical and intuitive for users, bringing together in a single section Google’s main productivity service
As shown in images, the main change is on the home page of the web version of the platform, which received a new shortcut menu in the left side area allowing browsing in the inbox, Google Chat Spaces and Meet, programs intended for studies or work and that stood out in the last years.
Although this is the main change, there are also other page elements that have been slightly changed in this update, such as the pop-up notifications that have gained a new format and the activity indicator, which from this redesign will be inserted next to the settings button.
The design renewal is part of the developer’s efforts to integrate the services most used by Google Workspace subscribers or other plans in a single tab. Overall, there are no noticeable variations that impact usability, but it’s interesting that the Mountain View giant is unifying its services.
According to Google, at this first moment the new look was only released to a few selected users, but it is expected that all accounts – ranging from personal to business – receive the novelty in Gmail’s quick settings area or in a company statement.
