Ms. Marvel is the next series from Marvel Studios on Disney+ and will feature the character Kamala Khan in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, played by Iman Vellani. But, even before her superhero franchise debut in her series, Ms. Marvel is confirmed in another major MCU movie.
In the series Ms. Marvel, we meet Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) for the first time, an American Muslim teenager who grew up in Jersey City. An avid gamer and a voracious fanfic writer, Kamala is a mega superhero fan with a huge imagination – particularly when it comes to Captain Marvel ( Brie Larson ). However, Kamala feels like she doesn’t fit in at school and even at home – that is until she has super powers like the heroes she’s always looked up to.
Ms. Marvel: Who is Kamala Khan? Meet the new heroine of the MCU
MS. MARVEL WILL APPEAR IN THE CAPTAIN MARVEL SEQUEL
The Marvels, set to premiere in 2023, will be a sequel to Captain Marvel (2019) movie and Ms. Marvel (2022), featuring a powerful team of Marvel superheroes as Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) joins newcomers Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) and Monica Rambeau ( Teyonah Parris ).
Few details have been revealed about the film, but the plot is expected to be related to the Secret Invasion, which is expected to feature the Skrulls’ invasion of Earth, as well as being connected to the events of Ms. Marvel. We will have the return of Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, who last appeared in Avengers: Endgame and in the post-credits scene of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
Teyonah Parris, who was introduced as Monica Rambeau in the events of the WandaVision series, and Iman Vellani, who will be introduced as Ms. Marvel in her series on Disney+, will be present in this sequel. One of Kamala Khan’s coolest traits is that she’s a huge fan of superheroes, with an obvious emphasis on Captain Marvel – including copying her look and poses. So it will be very interesting to follow Ms. Marvel appearing alongside her biggest inspiration.
Ms. Marvel: Where the Disney+ Series Fits Into the MCU Timeline
Filming on The Marvels recently wrapped and Iman Vellani revealed that she took advice from Brie Larson when she was cast in the role. “Brie Larson reached out to me two days after I got the role. She’s been my biggest source and mentor throughout this process. Even though she was an Oscar winner beforehand, Marvel completely changed her life,” she told Cosmopolitan.
“I have so much love for this character. I want people to see what I saw when I picked up those comics. I’m excited for people to see my portrayal. I want people to understand how nice and fun she is. And I think that the MCU needs her.”
The Marvels is set to premiere in July 2023 in theaters. Meanwhile, Ms. Marvel premieres on June 8 in the Disney+ catalog, consisting of 6 episodes.
