Intimate surgery for women can offer a wide range of procedures that are intended to improve the aesthetics or/and functionality of the female genital organs. It can be aesthetic, restorative, or rejuvenating. Dr. Sarmentero tells us about the most demanded procedures.
What is the vaginoplasty operation and what problems can it correct?
The loose vagina that usually appears after childbirth can cause decreased sensitivity during intercourse, altering sexual relations. The episiotomy or section of the posterior vaginal commissure during childbirth can lead to an excessively open vaginal introitus or entrance. Vaginoplasty corrects several problems in a single intervention:
- It narrows the vaginal canal, increasing the sensations during intercourse, both for the woman and for her partner.
- Reduces the introitus, giving a more rejuvenated and aesthetic appearance.
- Improves mild stress urinary incontinence, common in many patients.
The intervention can be performed using sedation and local anesthesia. The postoperative period usually presents mild discomfort, referred to as a sensation of “perineal tension” lasting between 2 and 5 days.
What is a vaginal lift?
After pregnancies, the abdomen usually presents laxity and stretch marks, being an indication for an Abdominoplasty. Likewise, these same patients present descent of the vaginal introitus, which is hidden.
So that the vulva is positioned in its normal location, that it is visible and with a rejuvenated appearance, the intervention known as Vaginal Lifting is indicated. It is performed through a caesarean section incision, which relocates the introitus to its normal position.
Is there surgery to correct the clitoris after sexual mutilation?
An estimated 4 million girls are sexually mutilated every year for ritual purposes, mostly in African countries. Many of these girls who have undergone clitoral ablation wish to correct their genitalia when they are female, for both aesthetic and sexual reasons.
Clitoroplasty is the intervention that corrects the injuries caused, obtaining excellent results, both in recovery of sexual sensitivity and in the aesthetic aspect. It is a relatively simple procedure that is performed under sedation and local anesthesia.
What is hymenoplasty and what is hymenoplasty?
In different cultures, there is the requirement that the woman must arrive at marriage as a virgin. The surgeon should not enter into these moral judgments and simply has to help whoever asks him.
The Himenoplastia intervention is creating a new hymen from the remains found of the same after losing her virginity. It is a relatively simple procedure that is performed under local anesthesia, on an outpatient basis.
Hypertrophy of the labia minora
Hypertrophic labia minora can be uncomfortable for the patient, not only from an aesthetic point of view, but also from a functional point of view, whether during intercourse, during exercise or when wearing tight clothing. The patient may manifest self-esteem and inhibition problems in her personal sphere. Although this disorder is possibly congenital, it appears at puberty and increases over the years, due to chronic irritation or pregnancy. This hypertrophy can take different shapes and sizes. The size, symmetry, and length of the front and back of the lips should be examined. The clitoral hood is also examined for excess skin. It is advisable for the patient to handle a hand mirror to better understand the explanations that may be given. Although there are multiple Labiaplasty techniques,The results with any of the techniques are very favorable and the level of patient satisfaction is high.
Major lips
There are two reasons for consultation for aesthetic anomalies of the labia majora: excessive volume or loss of volume with excessive flaccidity. When examining the patient, it is advisable first to examine her in a standing position, checking the influence that pubic ptosis could have on the appearance of the labia majora, and then in a gynecological position. The alternatives available to us are: to remove excess skin as lifting to eliminate flaccidity, increase its volume with fat, or a combination of both techniques. The labia majora, with age or other circumstances, can lose fat and give a sagging look. This is often associated with increased fat accumulation in the pubic mound. The volume increase is usually carried out with autologous fat or with synthetic injectables such as hyaluronic acid, usually using between 40 and 50 cc on each lip, until it appears turgid. Cosmetic surgery of the labia majora and minora can be performed simultaneously. If so, we would start with the minors.
Pubic ptosis
Both obesity and massive weight loss can produce a ptosis bulge of the pubic mound, which descends and hides the vulva and labia majora. Patients report being uncomfortable due to having a lump that is noticeable under clothing, or problems of a hygienic nature. When there is no ptosis (descent) but only an accumulation of pubic fat, liposuction may be sufficient. But the most common is that there is a marked decline. In most cases, this correction will be made simultaneously with a tummy tuck.
