Kardashian is wearing a dress like the one Electra wore and earned a spot on “the worst dressed list.”
Kim Kardashian recently shared a stylish illusion on Instagram. The internet celebrity uploaded a picture of herself wearing what at first glance seemed like a skirt. She did, however, show the whole outfit in the second slide: a curve-skimming T-shaped silk dress with side cut-outs that clasped with a thin plastic band across the back.
Although the item is unique, it is evocative of a design by Stephen Sprouse from his spring 1998 collection, which Kate Moss wore for the first time on the runway. The hot piece was subsequently worn by Carmen Electra in 1998 at the MTV Awards. “It was fastened on with a transparent strap. How this outfit remained on was a puzzle. In an interview with Vogue in 2017, she said, “My boobs were sort of overflowing out of the dress and I truly was on every ‘Worst Dressed’ list in that dress.” However, I recently saw it and thought, “It’s so covered today. If you wanted to dress sexily in the 1990s, it was really difficult.
Kardashian has a lengthy history of acquiring vintage clothing, including items by Jean Paul Gaultier, Azzedine Alaa, and Gucci from the Tom Ford period. However, Sprouse’s looks are notoriously hard to come by, particularly the dress in question, which is probably why she chose to have it made. A version of the garment with a black and white design of the Empire State Building is available from Johnny Valencia of the famously popular Pechuga Vintage. Whether or not Kardashian’s outfit is a replica, it pays tribute to Sprouse. If searches for the designer increase, don’t be shocked.
