Two weeks before the Super Bowl matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Josh Sills was indicted in Ohio on Tuesday for alleged rape and kidnapping.

The Ohio Attorney General’s Office announced in a statement on Wednesday that Sills, who is in his first season in the NFL, had been indicted on one count of rape and one count of kidnapping by a grand jury in Guernsey County Common Pleas Court.

The 6-foot-6-inch guard was still a college student and a member of the West Virginia Mountaineers when he allegedly committed both felonies in December 2019. The indictment states that Sills held a woman against her will and subjected her to nonconsensual sexual conduct.

It claims that the offense was reported right away and that the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office investigated thoroughly. On February 16th, less than a week after the Super Bowl, Sills (now 25) is scheduled to appear in court. Ohio’s Special Prosecutions Division is leading the prosecution of this case.

The Eagles are aware of the allegations, according to Bob Lange, senior vice president of communications, who spoke to NPR. “We’ve been in touch with the league office and are collecting additional data at this time. We can’t add anything more at this moment “What Lange said in an email.

After Sills graduated from Oklahoma State University in the spring, the Eagles signed him as an undrafted free agent. This year, he only appeared in one game.
