The writer and director of the movie ‘Joker‘, Todd Philips, shared on his social networks photos of the possible script that will narrate the continuation of the story of Arthur Fleck -better known as Joker- played by actor Joaquin Phoenix.
The image shows a red cover with the title “Joker: Folie á Deux”, written by Todd Philips and Scott Silver and dated May 2022. He also shared a photograph of Joaquin Phoenix reading the text.
The cover bears the subtitle “Folie à deux”, which corresponds to the concept of induced delusional disorder or shared psychotic disorder, a rare condition characterized by psychotic symptoms in 2 or more individuals who maintain a close relationship, says the World Health Organization. It could be summed up as ‘shared madness’.
It is a rare disorder, with psychotic symptoms, usually delusional ideas, in two or more people, who are usually members of the same family with some social isolation, and only one of the patients has a true psychotic disorder, says an article published in a journal specialized in psychiatry.
Joker tells the story of Arthur Fleck, a person with mental problems who is dedicated to being a comedian and a clown, but as the film progresses the character evolves into ‘the Joker’ (Joker), a mythical Batman villain.
The feature film was released in 2019, the year in which it won the Golden Lion for best film at the 76th Venice Film Festival. In February 2020 Joaquin Phoenix was awarded Best Actor at the Oscars for his portrayal of the Joker.
With an approximate budget of 55 million, “Joker” managed to gross more than one billion dollars in theaters around the world, which was a resounding success for Warner Bros.
In 2021 Joaquin Phoenix anticipated a possible sequel to the film that captured worldwide attention.
