It recently arrived on the platform and “The Indomitable Shrew” has already become one of its most watched premieres . Directed by Anna Wieczur-Bluszcz, Netflix continues its production of Polish romantic films, this time opting for a more classic plot compared to the erotic and dark romance that was ‘365 Days’ , its most successful project of the same nationality.

The story of ‘The Indomitable Shrew’ begins in the US where Kaska, a young scientist, decides to return to her native Poland after a heartbreak . There she meets her brother again, who is about to close the sale of the family land to Agata, a businesswoman whose business is in danger of not signing the deal. Faced with Kaska’s refusal to give up her part of her land, Agata decides to turn to her brother De Ella Patryk, a hustler up to the top of debts who agrees to seduce the young woman so that she gives in on the matter.

Despite having a similar title, the film has little or nothing to do with ‘The Taming of the Shrew’ (neither Shakespeare’s nor its film adaptation starring Elizabeth Taylor). We are facing a harmless romantic comedy that could well be part of the Hallmark catalog (what has been a tabletop movie of a lifetime ).

The story has its greatest asset in its humorous tone , since it manages to hide the lack of coherence that sometimes shows the evolution of the main relationship (the second meeting in the rain?). It’s not one to laugh out loud either, but it does have a couple of curious scenes, like the wood chopping contest.

It does not reach the level of blushing scenes of some of the similar Netflix productions, although it would not have hurt to make the set more entertaining, since its stretched footage of almost two hours ends up becoming excessive .

At the production level, the finish is correct, showing a waste of shots of the Polish mountain landscape that, of course, are pleasing to the eye.

‘The Indomitable Shrew’ is exactly what it promises: a romantic comedy of entanglements without too much complexity that will please those who enjoy the genre and are not excessively demanding. Now, if you are looking for a new guilty pleasure, in that sense it is a bit half gas.
