Facts you did not know about Eiza González, the Mexican who conquered Hollywood

Eiza González is about to release Godzilla vs Kong, one of the most anticipated films of the year and one of the most important in her career.

Since she arrived in Hollywood in 2013, the Mexican has done nothing but exploit her talent and show that she is here to stay.

In her wide path to fame, films such as the Oscar-nominated Baby Drive, Bloodshot, Cut Throat City, Fast and Furious, Welcome to Marwen, and recently I Care A Lot, a film that stars alongside Rosamund Pike, a British actress nominated for the Golden Globe for the same project.

Like many stars of international stature, Eiza has tried her luck in other areas of the entertainment industry beyond the cinema, being a model and a professional singer.

Started acting at age 13

Eliza found her calling at 13 when she was enrolled in an acting course at M&M Studio, run by fellow Mexican actress Patricia Reyes Spindola. 

It was at 14 that she began studying acting at the Center for Artistic Education. She only waited two years to get her first leading role in the youth telenovela Lola érase Una Vez as Lola Valente.

At 17, she left Mexico to study at the Lee Strasberg Theater and Film Institute in New York. 

Her mother was a model

The influence which Eiza carries in terms of modeling was inherited from her mother Glenda Reyna, a former Mexican model and judge of the reality show Mexico’s Next Top Model. 

When her father, Carlos González, died in a motorcycle accident, Eiza was left in the care of her mother.

The death of her father had a great impact on her life.

Carlos González died when Eiza was only 12 years old. From the fateful accident, the actress developed depression and eating disorders.

“I lost my father very young, but not young enough that I didn’t realize what was going on,” she said in an interview with Allure.

“My father and I had an incredible relationship. We were very united. I fell into a very dark place and couldn’t deal with the loss. I started to overeat and put on a lot of weight, and I was very sad.”

You have excellent English pronunciation

According to an analysis by blogger Superholly, Eiza has a very good pronunciation, perhaps better than any Mexican and Latin actress in general, so much so that she seems to be a native American.

It was in 2009 when she made her debut as a singer with her studio album Contracorriente, which she recorded with EMI Televisa, a company where she worked in Mexico.

Recently, after the controversy of the courtships of the singer Belinda arose, Eiza attracted attention for all the boyfriends she has had since moving to Los Angeles and rejected any misogynistic comparison with Belinda.
