US judge dismisses Cristiano Ronaldo rape lawsuit in Las Vegas
A US judge has dismissed a Nevada woman’s rape lawsuit against Cristiano Ronaldo in Las Vegas.
Kathryn Mayorga was making an offer for the Manchester United footballer to pay her millions of dollars in addition to the $375,000 in a confidentiality agreement she received after she claimed he raped her in Las Vegas in 2009, an allegation Ronaldo has always made. denied.
U.S. District Judge Jennifer Dorsey dismissed the claim Friday, ruling that Mayorga‘s attorney, Leslie Mark Stovall, had engaged in “bad faith conduct” and the use of “stolen” confidential documents that the judge said tainted the case beyond redemption.
Dorsey issued a 42-page order that dismissed the case entirely with no option to file it again, saying it was a severe penalty, adding that Ronaldo had been harmed by Stovall’s conduct.
The ruling stated: “I believe the continued collection and use of these documents was in bad faith, and simply disqualifying Stovall will not remedy the injury to Ronaldo because the misappropriated documents and their confidential content have been woven into the very fabric of (plaintiff Kathryn) Mayorga’s claims”.
He added: “Strong sanctions are warranted.”
“There is no possible way for this case to proceed where the court cannot say what arguments and testimony are based on these [leaked] documents,” Albregts said in his brief to Dorsey last October.
The allegation came into the public domain as a result of being reported by the German newspaper Der Spiegel in 2017, as a result of its Football Leaks exposure, with documents revealing details of the case.
A document from the leaks alleges that Ronaldo said “she said no and stopped multiple times” during sex. It is also said that she apologized afterward. His legal team has said the document was “completely fabricated” in an attempt to defame him.
Stovall could appeal Dorsey’s decision to the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco.
The Associated Press reported Saturday that they have not responded to phone calls or text messages to associate Larissa Drohobyczer about the issue.
