The National Anthem was performed this year by country music icon Trisha Yearwood.

With this award, Amy Grant made history as the first modern Christian artist to be recognised by the Kennedy Center. Katie Couric called Grant’s music “the perfect balm for turbulent times and wounded souls,” while Broadway great Chita Rivera honoured her for 40 years of work.

While honouring U2 at the Kennedy Center Honors, Sean Penn called them “the most constantly relevant band in history.” Beyoncé, Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, and Finneas all spoke lines from U2 songs in the video tribute, which also featured archival performance footage of the band over the years.
