Moon Knight centers on Marc Spector ( Oscar Isaac ), a mercenary with dissociative identity disorder. She later became the host to Khonsu, the Egyptian moon god, who became known as the Moon Knight.

This character has self-defense skills and is proficient in using weapons. Moon Knight is also often compared to Batman because he is also a detective who is supported by advanced technology.

Apart from Oscar Isaac, the series also stars Ethan Hawke as the main villain. Gaspard Ulliel and May Calamawy will also join the series.

Here are the facts about Moon Knight, the latest Marvel series airing March 30 on Disney+ Hotstar.

1. Unconnected MCU Story Right Now

The character Moon Knight first appeared in the 32nd edition of the Marvel comic titled Werewolf by Night, published in 1975.

In the comic, Marc Spector, alias Steven Grant, is a former marine and CIA agent who becomes a hit man.

Producer Grant Curtis revealed the series will have no connection with the current Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as it will feature new characters.

“No ties to the MCU at this time,” Curtis said in a statement.

“He’s a new character, and he’s going to explore new adventures as well. We think, the fans will really enjoy this.”

2. Directed by an Arab Director

Moon Knight consists of six episodes by three directors, namely Mohamed Diab, Justin Benson, and Aaron Moorhead.

Mohamed Diab is an Egyptian director and screenwriter who is known for his various works such as Cairo 678 (2010), Amira (2021), and others.

He caught the attention of Marvel Studios after his film Clash opened at the Cannes Film Festival in 2016.

On different occasions, Diab promised to portray Egypt better than the films or series that have been aired before.

3. Show Ancient Egyptian Culture

Moon Knight will feature aspects of the supernatural and ancient Egyptian culture that have never been seen in the MCU.

The production team carried out in-depth research and involved Egyptian historians to ensure accuracy in the script, characters, and setting.

Although the series was produced at the Origo Budapest studio, every detail in this series still features a strong Egyptian element, from vehicle license plates to the inscriptions on clothes written in Arabic.

Mohamed Diab said he was pleased to be able to present ancient traditions and modern Egyptian culture in a new and authentic style. He said the picture of Egypt was often misconstrued as it should be in other projects.

4. Longer Episode Duration

Each episode of Moon Knight will be longer than other MCU series, which is almost 50 minutes. Meanwhile, other MCU series that have aired are usually around 30-50 minutes long, depending on the needs of the episode.

Moon Knight executive producer Grant Curtis said the duration of the series was influenced by the complexity of the storyline and the rich history of the main character.

Thus, it becomes a challenge for the showrunner in determining the things and stories that will be adapted and poured into the small screen.

However, producer Grant Curtis believes fans of Moon Knight’s original work can still enjoy the adaptation on the small screen. The serial version of Moon Knight is said to still offer many things to fans.

5. Ethan Hawke Was Afraid to Take a Role in Moon Knight

Actor Ethan Hawke revealed that he was afraid to play a villain before being involved in the Moon Knight series. The 51-year-old actor reasoned that the image of a criminal would stick with him for the rest of his career.

However, Hawke also realized that at a young age, the antagonist role in Moon Knight could be a new thing for his acting career so far. This is what motivated him to take this role.

Ethan Hawke will play the character of an evil cult leader named Arthur Harrow. This role is Hawke’s debut in a comic book adaptation and marks an exciting new career direction for him.

Now, fans can watch the initial story of Moon Knight in the first season which has six episodes. Moon Knight premieres March 30 on Disney+ Hotstar.
