With all the hype around Will Smith since the Oscars, it was a few days before the Hollywood gossip machine paid attention to some images captured at the traditional Vanity Fair party that didn’t involve Rey’s actor. Richard: A Winning Family. However, yesterday it was his time for the photos that captured Jason Momoa and Kate Beckinsale in lively chat, while the actor put his jacket on his colleague over his shoulders.

Of course, before the speculation got out of control, it was Aquaman himself who clarified that the image captured by the paparazzi does not show anything other than an act of chivalry on his part. “The woman was cold. She is very nice. Now I will not lend my jacket to anyone else, “explained Momoa, interviewed last night at the premiere of the movie Ambulance. Somewhat surprised by the “crazy” conclusion that some came to after seeing the photo, the actor, recently separated from Lisa Bonet, did not reveal anything about his private life but was able to confirm that he will soon begin work on the miniseries Chief of War for Apple TV +. Written, produced, and starred by him, the eight-episode story will portray the story of the unification and colonization of Hawaii, his homeland, from the point of view of his native population.

Iranian director Asghar Farhadi was found guilty of plagiarism

An Iranian court ruled yesterday that filmmaker Asghar Farhadi, winner of the Grand Jury Prize (second in importance) at the 2021 Cannes festival for his film A Heroplagiarized the film script from a documentary made by one of her students, Azadeh Masihzadeh, in a non-fiction film workshop.

The conclusion of the case evaluated in the Tehran courts explains that Farhadi, winner of the Oscar in 2012 for the original script of the film separation and again in 2017 in the best foreign film category with The Salesman, violated Masihzadeh’s intellectual property rights by taking elements from his documentary to write the script for A Hero without giving him proper credit. The student screened the documentary film All-Winners All Losers, at the film workshop given by Farhadi in 2014. According to an article in the newspaper El País, since last year, when the film premiered at the Cannes festival, people had spoken of possible plagiarism and from Iran, the criticism of the director also included claims from his colleagues in prison accusing him of being lukewarm and of ignoring the human rights violations in his country.

When A Hero premiered in Spain a few months ago, Farhadi explained that he had based the film’s script on a true story portrayed in a television report about the “hero shown in my film.” At that time, the director also said that the case had not yet been prosecuted, which happened days later when he sued his former student for libel. Both lawsuits were resolved in favor of Masihzadeh. While many associate the court’s decision with Farhadi’s growing public criticism of his country’s government, the truth is that the director now awaits his sentence, which could involve paying a fine equal to his earnings from the film or even jail.
