For years we have seen how Instagram has managed to remain a social network outside the turbulent dynamics of other platforms.
Yes, it has certainly also been dedicated to emulating the most popular functions of its competition to bring them together in a single social network.
What is equally undeniable is that they are constantly searching for innovation to integrate new features that keep the app fresh.
However, few of us contemplated the possibility that, within this dynamic, at some point, Instagram could be interested in joining the NFT trend.
But now it is a reality on the way. And the most delicate thing is that it is not a rumour or anything like that. It is a virtual fact.
Mark Zuckerberg confirms the arrival of NFTs on Instagram
As you read above, the top boss of Meta (and therefore of Instagram), Mark Zuckerberg, has just confirmed that NFTs are on their way to join the popular photography social network.
In a conversation at SXSW with Shark Tank’s Daymond John, Mark Zuckerberg announced that his company plans to introduce NFT to Instagram in the “short term.”
While Meta’s CEO didn’t provide many details, he did reveal that the integration of non-fungible tokens into the photo and video sharing app is in the works, though some technical details need to be ironed out first:
“We are working to bring NFT to Instagram in the short term. I’m not ready to announce today exactly what it will be, but in the next couple of months we’ll have the ability to incorporate some NFTs and hopefully, over time, we’ll be able to build things within that environment.
I hope that the clothes your avatar wears in the Metaverse can be coined as NFTs and you can wear them to different places.”
It is known with certainty that since the end of last year the Instagram team was already working on exploring the possibility of incorporating NFTs into its social network.
But since then whole months had passed without single news about it. Now that has radically changed with the statement from the CEO of Meta.
As we know, digital goods and virtual experiences have become the new axes of focus for Facebook since it changed its name to Meta.
So the integration of NFTs to Instagram sounds like a natural and obvious thing that not many saw coming.
