A group of subjects entered the building of the Control Research Institute of the Chilean Army posing as suppliers and stole 56 pistols, Carabineros (militarized police) reported Monday.
“A group of subjects not yet identified entered the Army military compound located on Pedro Montt Avenue in downtown Santiago and stole 56 weapons,” Carabineros Major Gorka Verde reported at a press conference.
The officer explained that the criminals arrived at the premises explaining that they were suppliers and that they had scheduled to go look for the weapons, an arrangement that was confirmed by a superior of the Army through a telephone call.
The group took 52 9-millimetre CZ pistols and four private pistols that were delivered by the same military officials of the compound.
Later it was discovered that the call had not been made by said superior, confirming the robbery and giving notice to Police.
The investigation was left in the hands of the Criminal Organizations Investigation group OS 9 of Carabineros, a department specialized in criminal investigations.
