What began at 4:00 am on Thursday, February 24 (local time) as a conflict between Russia and Ukraine has already escalated to become a global issue. Five days after the invasion ordered by President Vladimir Putin, dozens of countries, athletes, actors, politicians and personalities from all areas have already openly shown their support for the nation led by Volodímir Zelenskyy.

From the president of the United States, Joe Biden, one of the first to position himself after the entry of the Russian army into Ukraine, to the leaders of Canada, Justin Trudeau, and Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, have already shown their rejection of the war.

The USA began its speech against the conflict between Russia and Ukraine with harsh statements in which it promised to take tough measures together with its allies; while the other North American country announced on Monday that it will send weapons to the attacked country and will prohibit the import of Russian oil.

The sanctions to try to persuade Putin to lay down his arms focused mainly on the economic sphere. The intention of Biden and the members of the European Union (EU) is to financially isolate the invaders.

The United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, Australia, South Korea and even Switzerland, among other countries, announced measures against Russia as a rejection of the war that came very close after the recognition of Donetsk and Lugansk as independent regions.

One of the most affected markets was the ruble, the currency of the offending country, which has plummeted up to almost 30% during the first hours of this Monday, February 28; while the main stock market index, Moex, did not trade this day.

In the civil sphere, citizens of various nations also expressed their opinion with peaceful protests to demand an end to the armed conflict. Some of them were: United Kingdom, Italy, Norway, Hungary, Netherlands, Mexico, Turkey, among others.

What do you think?
