Cristina Kirchner’s office was attacked during the demonstration that leftist groups carried out in front of Congress, to protest the agreement with the IMF. In this context, a group of hooded men threw stones and broke the windows of the vice president’s office, which was in the place, located on the first floor, at the time of the attack.
The offices of the official senators José Mayans (president of the Frente de Todos bloc), on the second floor, and of Oscar Parrilli, on the third, were also affected. At the moment, no official source reported on the physical integrity of Cristina Kirchner.
The attack took place in the framework of the march and the cuts that the Left Front and the Workers (FIT Unity) along with other Left organizations are carrying out this afternoon in the area of the National Congress, in rejection of the Government’s agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to refinance the debt.
As of 15, the serious incidents began. The tension was escalating and, already more than an hour after the session began in the Chamber of Deputies, the protesters began to burn tires in front of the building and throw stones. Finally, the police had to break in to dissuade the aggressors.
At that moment, a serious event was recorded, since an officer was the target of a Molotov cocktail thrown by the protesters and was injured. Four other policemen from the Buenos Aires forces, throughout the procedure, were also injured.
According to sources from the Police of the City of Buenos Aires, the operation did not begin earlier due to the presence of families and minors, who quickly withdrew before the start of the violence. It was also specified that the area was not fenced from the beginning by the decision of the National Government. In that sense, in turn, sources consulted by this medium indicated that the measure of not fencing the outskirts from the morning was taken to prevent it from being interpreted as an act of provocation in what had been a peaceful demonstration.
Before the intervention of the Police, the groups of aggressors were displaced towards the side of Hipólito Yrigoyen Avenue in the direction of Lower Buenos Aires. In that displacement, the demonstrators also stoned the Senate building, affecting the aforementioned offices.
Then, around 4:00 p.m., while inside the Congress the deputy from Entre Ríos Marcelo Pablo Casaretto (Frente de Todos) was expounding, the Police managed to disperse the most violent demonstrators with the action of hydrant trucks and motorized troops.
Before the notice of the Police, judge María Eugenia Capuchetti intervened, who requested expertise to relieve the damage and filming to check if any of the aggressors can be identified. Meanwhile, in the Buenos Aires Justice, there are two open cases: one for one of the detainees and another for the injuries to the agent.
Regarding the political debate within Congress, after 2:20 p.m., the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Sergio Massa, called the session in which the agreement with the IMF to refinance the debt of USD 44 billion contracted during the government of Mauricio Macri.
The great absentee at the time of giving the quorum was the deputy Máximo Kirchner, who an hour after the debate began had not taken his seat. The empty chair continues to fuel speculation about how the referent of La Cámpora and the twenty legislators close to him will vote. There were seven other legislators from the Frente de Todos who also did not come down to give a quorum.
However, the parliamentary secretary of the Frente de Todos bloc, Paula Penacca, also a reference for La Cámpora, did appear. The same was done by the camper Marcos Cleri and the three deputies of Patria Grande (Itai Hagman, Federico Fagioli and Natalia Zaracho), the space led by Juan Grabois, who announced yesterday at a press conference that he will not accompany the official project.
Other deputies who publicly expressed their doubts and criticisms of the agreement that they did contribute to the official quorum were Hugo Yassky, Leopoldo Moreau and Sergio Palazzo.
