“I thought I was looking for my Disney prince…but maybe what I needed all this time was a Disney princess .” Rebel Wilson introduced his girlfriend with this phrase on Instagram last Thursday. The actress of the Netflix comedy  Vuelta al insti revealed, with those words and an image of both, that she is dating designer Ramona Agruma. And, although everything indicated that the interpreter had freely decided to come out of the closet, it seems that it was not really like that.

Following Wilson’s post, journalist Andrew Horney wrote an opinion piece for the Sydney Morning Herald in which he revealed that the actress was given two days to confirm their relationship before the Australian outlet published it.

Another journalist, Kate Doak, shared the caption on Twitter, writing: ” So apparently it wasn’t Rebel Wilson’s decision to come out … The Sydney Morning Herald has admitted to giving her two days’ notice before coming out. What’s worse, openly gay men from the Sydney Morning Herald were involved in it.”

Wilson responded to Doak’s tweet with the following sentence:

Thank you for your comment, it was a very difficult situation but I try to handle it with elegance

What happened has caused quite a stir in networks and the LGBT community, so the Australian media has responded with a statement in which it has denied that they were the ones who have taken Wilson out of the closet.

“Our weekly Private Sydney celebrity column last week asked Wilson if he had any comments to make about his partner. We would have asked the same questions if Wilson’s partner had been a man,” editor  Bevan Shields explained. “Saying the Herald has outed Wilson is not correct”.

“Like other newspapers do every day, we just ask questions and, as standard practice, including a deadline for a response. We hadn’t made any decisions about what to publish, and the Herald‘s decision about what to do would have been informed by any response provided .” by Wilson. Wilson decided to reveal his new partner publicly .”

To finish, the statement dedicates a few words to the couple: “Wish the best to Wilson and Agruma”.
