It has been almost a decade since Gangnam Style managed to become a worldwide phenomenon. The song performed by the Korean PSY had a very particular choreography and was even awarded the European MTV award for the best music video in 2013.
In addition, the song set a Guinness record for being the song with the most likes in history.
Now, nine years later, the song is going viral again thanks to TikTok, but not in the most popular way.
Trauma Style?
Gangnam Style is being used in this social network to remember the traumas of its users, mostly from childhood, with some stories, shared that is a bit strong, but that is taken in a funny way by the content creators, some of them even possibly inventing these traumas.
One of them is shared by a girl @ximitaaaa, who says: “Me at 10 years old thinking why my mom didn’t come to pick me up for my little friend’s birthday…”.
The end of that video was unexpected: “they killed her while she was looking for me”.
Another user @murcie.galo shared her video with the background theme explaining: “My ex freaked out because his best friend suddenly ghosted him… The man was running from the police because he killed his parents.”
In fashion again
Although some of these stories are probably false, the truth is that Gangnam Style is back in fashion thanks to TikTok, although not with the same enthusiasm as it was received upon reaching fame.
The theme created by Steve Lacy no longer sounds in its entirety, but a remix of the original version that is now used as a background to tell traumatic stories by users of that social network.
His video on YouTube has more than 4.3 billion views.
