5. Improve social skills

Most pet owners have a special bond with their furry friends; In fact, statistics show that over 66% of dog owners and 56% of cat owners consider their pet to be one more member of the family. But in addition, recent studies have concluded that having a pet would also have a beneficial influence on our other relationships. Thus, a study published in the journal Applied Developmental Science showed that taking care of a pet can improve social skills. Those who took greater care of their animals also had a greater participation in the community and were more likely to become leaders. If this were not enough, a greater attachment to animals during adolescence proved to provoke greater empathy and confidence in adulthood.
