Let me explain, there are two units of a volume called gallons, the British gallon and the US gallon. Both gallons are equal to 8 pints, the problem is that in the United States a pint is 16 fluid ounces, while in Great Britain it is 20. Also, both fluid ounces are different.

Thus one US gallon equals $8 \times 16 = 128$ US fluid ounces. For the rest of the world that we are not that “weird”, the US gallon is equivalent to 3.7854 liters.
If we refer to the imperial or British gallon, it is equivalent to $8 \times 20 = 160$ British fluid ounces. For the rest of the planet, this means 4.5461 liters.

In other words, the imperial gallon is larger than the American one, approximately one $20 %$

I must admit that I had a good time researching this, it reminded me of my student days when I picked up an American book that came with such logical and simple units. In short, what has been said, the traditional US and imperial unit systems are a paragon of simplicity. Why do we insist on the rest of the world using that invention of the devil that is the SI?

American Gallon :

Used in the US and well apart from America, the conversion has a very easy pattern to follow, it resembles computer processors:

Volume Units (ounce, cup, pint, gallon):

1 ounce = Basic Unit
1 cup = 8 ounces
1 pint = 16 ounces (2 cups)
1 quart = 32 ounces (2 pints)
1/2 gallon = 64 ounces (2 quarts)
1 gallon = 128 ounces (4 quarts)

Length Units (inches, feet, yards, miles):

1 inch = Basic Unit
1 foot = 12 inches
1 Yard = 3 feet (36 inches)
1 mile = 1760 yards

The mess is when we try to convert it to the Metric System, but they don’t.
