Ms. Marvel, aka Kamala Khan, may seem so different as a character from the late MCU technical genius Tony Stark. After all, how much do a nano-shielded genius, a billionaire, a playboy, a philanthropist, and a cosmic-powered high school kid have in common? But Marvel actor Iman Vellani says their differences are only skin deep (or armor).
While Ms. Marvel will tell the story of how Khan receives her powers and her struggle to live the life of a superhero and a member of her devout Muslim family, trailers indicate that one of the themes of the series will be what it means to be good. and what exactly is a hero. “Do you want to be good?” he is asked in the latest trailer. For Vellani, that topic immediately evoked the struggles of OG Marvel hero Iron Man. Vellani said the same thing in his recent Elite Daily profile:
“Obviously, Tony Stark, a middle-aged white guy, and me, a 16-year-old brown boy, are not the same. But I related to a lot of her inner conflict of what does it mean to do the right thing and be a good person? And how can you be a good person when you have done so much wrong and how do you eradicate those mistakes?
It’s no surprise that actor Vellani finds inspiration in the character of Tony Stark; The Canadian native has already declared herself one of the biggest real Marvel superfans on the current roster of talent, proclaiming her love for both the movies and her comic book sources.
Tony Stark/Iron Man is also Vellani’s favorite character. So much so that he can’t bring himself to watch Avengers: Endgame and witness the character’s death on screen. “I think a part of me is dead forever, honestly,” he told Elite Daily of Stark’s apparent departure from the franchise.
Fans only have a few hours to wait to see how Kamala Khan handles superhero issues. Ms. Marvel premieres on Disney Plus Wednesday at midnight.
