Google wants to contribute to Ukraine in the midst of the Russian invasion and will develop a type of airstrike alert for Ukrainian citizens to receive on their Android phones.
The alarms are made up of loudspeakers that sound and thus alert the population that an air attack is approaching and that they must take cover as soon as possible.
The alarms are made up of loudspeakers that sound and thus alert the population that an air attack is approaching and that they must take cover as soon as possible. Everyone has been able to appreciate this in the Well, Google wants to contribute with your help and will develop some kind of air raid alert for Ukrainian citizens to receive on their Android phones.
“Tragically, millions of people in Ukraine now rely on airstrike alerts to try to get to safety. At the request, and with the help, of the Ukrainian government, we have started to roll out a rapid airstrike alert system for Android phones in Ukraine. This work is complementary to existing airstrike alert systems in the country and builds on alerts already being delivered by the Ukrainian government,” said Kent Walker, president of Global Affairs at Google.
The XDADevelopers website announced that it has pulled the latest version of Google Play Services from version 22.06.15, and found a new code in English, Russian and Ukrainian and has the name ‘Air Raid Warning Details Preference Key’ air warning detail.
It should be noted that It will only be available in Ukraine. Google will use the approximate location data of the user to determine to whom and when to send alerts.
Basically what this code explains is that Google would be working to develop an air raid alert that would reach Android mobiles and that for now would only be available in Ukraine. Google would use approximate data of the user’s location to determine to whom and when to send alerts.
The alerts would include the following text:
– The Government of Ukraine issued an alert for [LOCATION] at [TIME]. Take shelter immediately. Tap to change settings.
– The Government of Ukraine cancelled the alert for [LOCATION] at [TIME]. Tap to change settings.
These alerts will be enabled through Google mobile services, so the Android device must have Google services.
Google also supports refugees from Ukraine in other ways
To help the growing number of refugees in the region, Google is also developing ways for businesses to flag whether they are providing services to refugees.
Starting today, hotel owners in countries neighbouring Ukraine can indicate in their business profile whether they offer free or discounted accommodation for refugees. And local businesses can post to their business profile on Search and Maps to offer various services and help to refugees from Ukraine.
Also, and as part of the largest investment in Poland, the tech giant announced that it will use Google spaces and resources to support those affected by the invasion, including by using the Google for Startups Campus in Warsaw as a space where Local NGOs can provide legal and psychological support to refugees.
That is based on the commitment of 10 million dollars with the local organizations that help refugees arriving in Poland, and in supporting NGOs doing this crucial work in Slovakia, Romania and Hungary.
