In the current context of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Thor: Love and Thunder might seem like an odd breed. While the story opens up to explore new characters or new plots, such as the multiverse, the fourth God of Thunder movie emerges to evoke different issues from the previous phases. The detail is that it may not be just there.
About Thor: Love and Thunder there are two advances, a first teaser and the trailer for the film. Between the two, several repeated images, but also a wide series of winks and references to different aspects of the Marvel Cinematic Universe that could be key not only in the film but in the entire Phase 4 of the narrative.
Through a work signed by Savannah Sanders, The Direct explores the possible impact that Thor: Love and Thunder could have within Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe; to the point of looking at it as a film that could connect the three previous phases and pave the way to other aspects that are being developed during this stage.
Thor: Love and Thunder and the possible impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe
The advances in the film have allowed us to confide several references and relations with other films. We see them.
Links to Guardians of the Galaxy and Black Panther
Seen what has been seen, and taking into account the end of Avengers: Endgame, the beginning of Thor: Love and Thunder will be related to his adventures with the Guardians of the Galaxy. Asgard is governed by Valkyrie while the God of Thunder attends to different matters throughout the Universe. Although it is not known how long this section can last, The Direct raises it as a possible prequel to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which will be released next year.
In another section of the trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder, you can see a figure that is associated with the goddess Bastet, who within Black Panther is in charge of giving special abilities to those chosen to carry the mantle of the beast. So, it is not ruled out that some nod is also made to the sequel to this narrative, one of the ones that have suffered the most setbacks during this time.
The mythology of Moon Knight and the reunion with Kingo, from Eternos
Although Moon Knight does not seem to have too many relationships with other productions of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the meeting of the gods that take place in Olympus and Thor: Love and Thunder can be the bridge between both productions. It may be the occasion to continue exploring the links between these deities and their representatives or influence on earth.
In line with this, the character of Kingo appears, who during Eternos referred to the God of Thunder as a friend who now, at the time of production, did not answer the phone. Perhaps the relationship between the two will be explored and through it tell a little about the links between the Eternals, the gods, and human beings.
Loki and the Watcher, could they show up?
With the multiverse presented, in development, and Thor’s tattoo related to Loki, it is not ruled out that the brother of the God of Thunder may appear. He could arise through one of the many variants of him. If not, according to Savannah Sanders’ criteria, another possibility is that there is a post-credits scene dedicated to this character: the second part of his series is scheduled for next year, on June 6.
During one of the scenes in which Jane Foster appears wearing the cloak of the Goddess of Thunder, Mjolnir through, the statues of different deities and universal figures appear. One of them is Vigilante. Can this be a nod to him later being introduced in his physical form? This character was already introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe through the animated series What if…?
The possible relationship with Venom in Thor: Love and Thunder
Gorr The Butcher God has a close relationship with the symbiotes because he will be using All-Black, the sword that comes from a living being, like all Necroswords. Both the weapon and Venom come from the same place. Therefore, it is suspected that there could be a wink. How will it be achieved? This is not clear.
So, although it may not seem like it on the surface, Thor: Love and Thunder poses a series of relationships with several of the projects that have already been developed and that are still growing within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That is why this piece, within Phase 4, may have even more weight than Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness, since it would be a bridge to several future stories. Meanwhile, Chris Hemsworth’s roadmap as the God of Thunder may close.
