‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’: The bloody and sadistic scene that even impacted Sam Raimi

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is the first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in which terror is present. It is not for less, taking into account that its director is Sam Raimi, the same behind the Infernal Possession trilogy. But not only fear is one of the key aspects of the film on a visual level, but also the violence and blood of the Illuminati scene. Even Raimi himself was struck by this moment.

Michael Waldron is the writer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The writer, who also helmed the Disney+ series Loki, brought to paper the sadistic murders of Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch ( Elizabeth Olsen ). The moment occurs after Stephen Strange ( Benedict Cumberbatch ) and América Chávez ( Xochitl Gómez ) travel to Earth-838 . In this universe, Reed Richards / Mr. Fantastic ( John Krasinski ) Maria Rambeau /Captain Marvel ( Lashana Lynch ), Charles Xavier ( Patrick Stewart ), Peggy Carter / Captain Carter ( Hayley Atwell ), and Blackagar Boltagon / Black Lightning ( Anson Mount ) have formed the Illuminati.

This group of superheroes locks up the protagonists and Wanda Maximoff uses that to go after América Chávez and steal her power, that of being able to travel through multiverses. To do this, the Scarlet Witch of Earth-616 possesses the body of her counterpart on Earth-838 and ends the lives of all the Illuminati.

In an interview with IndieWire, Waldron explained that he wrote these graphic deaths in a gory and sadistic way because he knew that Raimi, known for his work in the horror genre, was going to be the director.

“I wrote gruesome deaths because Sam Raimi was the director and it shocked Sam. He said, ‘Can we do this?’ I said, ‘You can,'” Waldron begins. “I felt a lot of freedom to go crazy on this movie because I was Sam and because I know what he’s so good at and I knew he’d be great at it. I only gave him the basic pieces and some of the details, but it came right out of his twisted mind.” “.

The deaths of the Illuminati have caused a debate among those who have seen the film in the face of its recommendation for ages. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is not recommended for children under 12 years of age, but many have pointed out that it is too violent even for that age group. Also, other moments in which Raimi allows terror to sneak into the film have been part of the debate.
