In 2017, Blac Chyna (born Angela White), the mother of Rob Kardashian’s now-five-year-old daughter Dream Kardashian, sued her ex-fiancé Rob and the Kardashian family (sans Kourtney and Kendall), claiming they had damaged your brand. Kim Kardashian, Khloé Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, and Kris Jenner appeared in court in Los Angeles on Monday, April 18, to witness the jury selection. Here’s everything there is to know about Blac Chyna’s lawsuit against the Kardashians so far.
Why has Blac Chyna sued the Kardashians?
Blac Chyna got involved with the KarJenner universe around 2014 when Kylie Jenner started dating her ex Tyga. Chyna began a romantic relationship with Rob Kardashian in 2016, and they became engaged after three months. The dream was born in November 2016. The couple broke up a month later. In October 2017, the businesswoman filed a defamation lawsuit against Rob and his family.
Blac alleges that the Kardashian family played a prominent role in the cancellation of her series, Rob & Chyna. Also, before the show’s cancellation was announced, Rob allegedly leaked nude photos of Blac Chyna online.
The Kardashians, through court documents, denied their involvement in the cancellation of the program, claiming that they were looking after Rob’s safety. ‘During alcohol and drug-fueled rampage, the model violently attacked Rob, strangling him with an iPhone charging cable, hitting him repeatedly with her fists and a metal bar, and throwing a chair into Rob’s car. as he walked away to escape his attack,’ the family alleged according to court documents, according to Vulture.
“When they managed to cancel my number one hit show back in January 2017, it not only hurt me financially and emotionally, it hurt my beautiful CHILDREN,” Chyna wrote in a statement on Twitter on April 2. ‘I am taking them to court to defend my legal rights and to be an example to my children that right is right, wrong is wrong. And what they did was very wrong. I am so grateful that a jury is finally hearing what really happened behind closed doors: the lies that were told and the damage that was done.’
When was the trial?
The trial, which began with jury selection on Monday, April 18, is expected to last 10 days.
Who appeared in the court?
According to Vulture, the list of people expected to testify includes Blac Chyna, Kris Jenner, Kylie Jenner, Khloé Kardashian, Kim Kardashian, Rob Kardashian, Corey Gamble, and Ryan Seacrest, who was an executive producer on Rob & Chyna, as well as Keeping Up With the Kardashians. The then president of E!, the model’s former agent and businesswoman, and the current president of NBCUniversal are also on the list.
Both sides are becoming each other’s villains
In an opening statement, Blac Chyna’s attorney, Lynne Ciani, alleges that the Kardashians conspired to ruin the career of her client, who had worked for years to build a professional and personal life, according to BuzzFeed News, only to have it all fall apart. when the Kardashians supposedly got their reality show canceled.
For his part, Michael Rhodes, attorney for the Kardashians, painted Blac Chyna as an opportunist who wanted to be part of the famous family: “I wanted to be one of them,” Rhodes said according to BuzzFeed News. The Kardashians have yet to make any personal statements about the case publicly, but their presence at jury selection indicates that they are taking this lawsuit seriously.
Kris Jenner testified that Blac Chyna threatened Kylie Jenner
On April 21, Kris took the stand and discussed testimony from a December 2019 deposition in which she claimed Blac Chyna ‘ threatened my daughter’s life, ‘ according to Insider.
On the stand, Kris said the alleged threats were made before Rob and Chyna got together, and involved Kylie’s relationship with their mutual ex, Tyga. “Kylie was dragged into it because she was dating Tyga and that’s where the assault came from,” Jenner told the court, according to Insider. When pressed for specific details, she repeatedly responded with ‘You should ask Kylie’ or ‘You should ask Tyga’.
Kris recounted that Kylie told her that Chyna had cut off Tyga’s arm with a knife, but all the accusations were ‘kept internal’. At one point, Ciani, Chyna’s attorney, asked Kris, ‘If you thought Blac Chyna was trying to kill her daughter, why didn’t you worry about Rob dating her?’
Jenner responded that there is a “huge difference between attempted and threatened.”
