With the success of Netflix‘s ‘The Good Nurse,’ Eddie Redmayne will now embark on the adaptation of “‘Jackal’s Day’ for Peacock .Eddie Redmayne, the Oscar-winning actor, is scheduled to star in “The Day of the Jackal,” a Peacock and Sky television series.
He will play The Jackal, a professional assassin hired by a French paramilitary dissident in 1962 to assassinate French President Charles de Gaulle.
The series is a modernization of the 1973 film of the same name, which was based on Frederick Forsyth’s novel of the same name. This updated version will delve deeper into the character’s chameleon-like traits, taking place amid the present geopolitical scene.
The creator and writer of the acclaimed Netflix series “Top Boy,” Ronan Bennett, will serve as showrunner and writer for “The Day of the Jackal.” Brian Kirk, who has directed episodes of “Game of Thrones” and “Luther,” will be in charge of the series’ direction.
Carnival Films, well known for creating “Downton Abbey,” will create the series in collaboration with Universal International Studios.
Redmayne will also executive produce alongside Gareth Neame and Nigel Marchant of Carnival Films, as well as Sam Hoyle and Marianne Buckland of Sky Studios. The original novel’s author, Frederick Forsyth, will serve as a consulting producer, and the series will be produced by Christopher Hall.
The show will be broadcast on Peacock in the United States, and Sky in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. The series’ overseas sales will be handled by NBCUniversal Global Distribution.
According to Variety, Carnival Films CEO Gareth Neame expressed excitement about the project, saying, “We are thrilled to bring Ronan Bennett’s reimagining of Forsyth’s revered thriller to life in today’s complex world, and we are extremely fortunate to have an actor of Eddie’s calibre as our Jackal. This is a first-rate creative team when combined with Ronan’s writing and Brian Kirk’s direction.”
