Diogo Dalot, a star player for Manchester United, is back in training after being hurt for three weeks and not being able to play. The right back got hurt when Manchester United played Charlton Athletic in the quarterfinals of the Carabao Cup.
Since the 2022 World Cup, it has been hard for the 23-year-old to stay in shape. But the Portugal international could play again on Saturday when Old Trafford plays Crystal Palace in the Premier League (4 February).
Bruno Fernandes, who is from the same country as Dalot, told the Manchester Evening News that the right back was back in the running. The 28-year-old is glad he can count on people from his own country.
“Diogo is also training with us, and he should be fully fit very soon. This is great because it gives the manager more choices.”
During the first half of the season, the 23-year-old was always the first player on the field. But Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been asked to play in his place while the former FC Porto star is out.
Luckily, the England U21 player has done a great job filling in at right back. Over the last few weeks, the 25-year-old has put in some good performances and put himself back in the running for a starting spot.
Wan-Bissaka had been the first choice for United for a long time. But things changed for the former Crystal Palace player when Ralf Rangnicks replaced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as the team’s coach at Old Trafford.
This season, Dalot has moved ahead of the 25-year-old in the pecking order. The Portuguese player has been one of the most important ones under the Dutch manager.
But we’ve been lucky that we haven’t missed the 23-year-old in recent games. Still, the right-full back’s recovery will clearly be a big boost for the team.
