Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi’s Chief Minister, said Tuesday that he tested positive for coronavirus. He has retreated to his house.The chief minister has ordered that everybody who has come into touch with him in the previous three days be quarantined and tested.

Kejriwal has been campaigning in the poll-bound states of Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Goa since December.

He held at least four rallies in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand in the last week alone, PTI said.

On December 30, he took part in Chandigarh’s victory march following his Aam Aadmi Party’s victory in 14 of the 35 municipal corporation wards.

A day later, he took part in the “Shanti Match” in Punjab’s Patiala city, which drew hundreds of spectators, according to ANI.

He was one of several political figures who attended packed gatherings in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday in advance of the state’s impending Assembly elections. At these gatherings, the majority of the leaders were visible without masks.

He addressed a massive public gathering in Dehradun on Monday, according to PTI.

Several members of the Delhi Cabinet tested positive for coronavirus last year. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, Health Minister Satyendar Jain, Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot, and Environment Minister Gopal Rai are also part of this delegation.

Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of Delhi’s chief minister, also tested positive. Arvind Kejriwal exhibited symptoms consistent with the illness but tested negative.

Coronavirus cases spiked in Delhi on Monday, with the capital recording 4,099 new illnesses in the preceding 24 hours. Monday’s new cases were 28.33 percent more than Sunday’s 3,194 illnesses.

Delhi now has 10,986 active Covid-19 cases, with 420 people hospitalised as a result of the condition. 124 of these patients are receiving oxygen therapy, while seven are receiving ventilator assistance.

According to Jain, the Omicron variation has surpassed all other strains in the capital. He stated that in the previous four days, 81.28 percent of coronavirus infections in the national capital were of the Omicron variety.
