Netflix will soon be another contender, and weight. Disney announced on Tuesday (8) that it will withdraw all its films from Netflix in the United States in 2019 and create a streaming service of its own.
As of 2019, the company plans to make available in its platform films such as “Toy Story 4”, the sequence of “Frozen: A Freezing Adventure” and the live-action of “The Lion King”.
“Disney will also invest significantly in an annual series of original Disney movies, series, short films and other exclusive films for the service. In addition, the platform will feature a vast collection of content including Disney and Pixar movies and television shows from the Disney Channel, Disney Junior and Disney XD. “
The change will only be valid for the moment in the American market. There is also no concrete information about Marvel and Lucasfilm’s Disney companies. Speaking to investors, Disney CEO Robert Iger said:
“There are talks about launching an exclusive service from Marvel and another from Star Wars, but we know the volume of content that would enter these platforms. The distribution of Marvel and Star Wars content will be announced at a later date when we know what we want to do. “
