Saving Private Ryan (1998) is a film directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Hanks, Matt Damon, Tom Sizemore, Edward Burns, Barry Pepper, Vin Diesel, Giovanni Ribisi, Adam Goldberg and Jeremy Davies about the Normandy invasion during the Second World War. The film was acclaimed for its realism in recreating the landing and allied assault on ‘Omaha Beach’ on June 6, 1944. It was nominated for seven Oscars and Steven Spielberg won the Best Director Award. The film grossed nearly $ 500 million. It was the highest grossing American film of 1998.
