
Ben-Hur (1959) is a film directed by William Wyler and starring Charlton Heston, Stephen Boyd, Jack Hawkins, Hugh Griffith and Haya Harareet about a Jewish aristocrat in the time of Emperor Tiberius who is betrayed by his best friend, And sent to the galleys. Ben-Hur will return to Judea to find his family and take revenge for the betrayal of Mesala. The film won 11 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director (Wyler), Best Actor (Heston), Best Supporting Actor (Griffith) and Best Picture. With an unusual budget – for the time – of 15 million dollars, it raised in its initial opening 146.900.000 dollars. It was the highest grossing film of 1959.
