Vaginal rejuvenation

Introduction

Natural aging, childbirth, and menopause produce changes that alter the appearance and sensations of the vaginal area. Today there are several solutions to help women feel better physically and emotionally. Vaginal rejuvenation is one of the favorite techniques to restore confidence in women who suffer from intimate problems associated with aging.

What does vaginal rejuvenation treat?

Throughout the life cycle, a woman faces constant changes in her body; pregnancy, childbirth, natural aging, hormonal changes, and menopause … These external and internal factors affect the appearance and sensations of the vaginal area over the years. In addition to the discomfort caused, women can suffer complexes that lead them to avoid intimate situations that affect their relationships. Fortunately, there are several solutions to remedy intimate aging,

Vaginal rejuvenation is a set of procedures that improves a woman’s intimate area to help her feel more self-confident and to be able to lead a more pleasant sexual life.

Some agencies or surgeons refer to vaginal rejuvenation as vaginoplasty. However, we differentiate the two surgeries, since vaginoplasty has the sole goal of narrowing or widening the vaginal canal and does not treat other vaginal conditions to rejuvenate them. Therefore, we refer to the rejuvenation of the vagina as something more complete, since it consists of a set of procedures.

Goals of vaginal rejuvenation

As AARP professionals tell us, this procedure aims to completely rejuvenate the vaginal area by allowing:

  • narrow and tone the vaginal canal
  • treat urinary incontinence
  • treat vaginal dryness to avoid aches and pains during intercourse
  • prevent or treat a prolapse
  • improve the appearance of the vulva
  • improve sexual relations

Who is eligible for this surgery?

All women who suffer from loss of tone, urinary incontinence, vaginal dryness, or who feel discomfort during sexual intercourse can opt for vaginal rejuvenation.

There is no age limit to opt for this type of treatment, however, depending on the type of procedure (invasive or not), the subject must be in good physical health to be in the hands of a surgeon.

tells us that most women who opt for laser resurfacing are women who have just given birth and they feel a loss of tone in the pelvic floor.

How to find my surgeon?

As with any cosmetic surgery procedure, we recommend that you always go to an experienced, recognized, and certified professional to operate in Spain.

As it is vaginal rejuvenation, you can go to various types of professionals to perform all or part of the treatments for this procedure. You can, for example, refer to a cosmetic surgeon specializing in intimate surgery or a urogenital surgeon. You can also opt for a cosmetic doctor if you want to perform a rejuvenation based on injections of hyaluronic acid.

In any case, we always recommend that you follow the following steps to find your doctor:

  • Verify that it is part of official institutions, such as the SEC (Spanish Society of Reconstructive and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery) or the SEME (Spanish Society of Aesthetic Medicine) …
  • look for opinions online and read all the recommendations you can find
  • consult several surgeons to choose a professional who makes you feel confident

* We remind you that since it is an intimate subject, your doctor should perform physical examinations, you must take it into account if you feel more comfortable with a doctor or a surgeon.

What happens during the first consultation?

In the first stage, your doctor will establish your complete medical history to rule out possible contraindications. He will ask you questions to find out in detail what your conditions are, the symptoms you would like to improve, and your expectations. They will likely also ask you specific questions to learn more about your sex life, as it is directly affected by the procedure.

Then, he will examine you to propose several solutions to improve and rejuvenate your vaginal area, according to the data that you have previously provided. He will explain in detail each of the possible solutions, how they are carried out, how to prepare yourself, what happens in the postoperative period, and what are the results to expect. Take the opportunity to clarify all your doubts and concerns.

At the end of the consultation, they will give you a complete budget with the total price of the procedure. If you choose to carry out the treatment, depending on whether it is a surgical procedure or not, your doctor will schedule you for a new preoperative consultation.

Preparation for the intervention

The preparation of the intervention depends greatly on the type of procedure to decide to perform. However, we give you these tips common to any type of surgical procedure:

  • stop smoking at least 1 month before and 1 month after the intervention to facilitate healing and avoid the risk of necrosis
  • stop taking anti-inflammatory medications such as aspirin at least 15 days before the procedure
  • stop taking your oral contraceptive at least 1 month before
  • if it is surgery with anesthesia, you will have to consult the anesthetist at least 48 hours before the treatment
  • if necessary, shower the night and the morning before with an antiseptic
  • Depending on the treatment you will have to shave or not the area to be treated, always consult your doctor

Anesthesia and hospitalization

Most of the procedures that constitute vaginal rejuvenation are performed under local anesthesia and do not require hospitalization. However, if you opt for a more invasive procedure, you will likely need general anesthesia and up to 1 day of hospitalization.

Vaginoplasty

Vaginoplasty can be surgical, or minimally invasive thanks to laser technology. You can also opt for a hyaluronic acid vaginoplasty for even gentler treatment. This procedure allows to narrow the vaginal canal, and treat incontinence, prolapse, and also vaginal dryness.

  • To be

It is a very fast and easy treatment, as tells us. A local anesthetic cream is applied and the laser is inserted into the vaginal canal to work the area. The Doctor tells us that if the patient only needs to narrow the channel that has lost its tonicity, the treatment lasts about 15 or 20 minutes. If you also need to treat vaginal dryness or urinary incontinence, the treatment may last 30 to 45 minutes.

You will be able to resume normal activity as soon as you leave your doctor’s office. The recovery is almost immediate, as are the results. It is recommended not to exercise for 1 week, as well as to carry out careful intimate hygiene during this period. You will also have to wait 7 days to be able to have sex.

There is a multitude of lasers on the market, so your doctor is likely to use a type of laser whose characteristics differ from what was discussed above. Some lasers need a single application and others that on the contrary need several sessions.

  • Surgical

Some women choose to have a surgical vaginoplasty. It all depends on the severity of the problem and the techniques performed by your surgeon. It is an intervention that is performed under local anesthesia with sedation, or epidural; where the doctor tenses the muscles of the pelvic floor and then sews the edges of the skin of the vaginal canal. It lasts about 1 hour. You can learn more about this procedure here.

  • Lipofilling

If you suffer from moderate vaginal laxity, you can perform intra-vaginal lipofilling to narrow the internal canal. It is a minimally invasive surgery, which is generally performed under local anesthesia with sedation, where the surgeon removes fat from a donor area through liposuction, and then treats it and injects it into the vaginal canal. Lipofilling also increases the G-spot and improves the quality of the internal mucosa.

  • Hyaluronic acid

In other moderate cases, you can also opt for a rejuvenation of the vagina with hyaluronic acid. It is a very simple procedure where the doctor injects hyaluronic acid very quickly and easily along the vaginal canal to narrow it. The injections are preceded by local anesthesia, as = tells us. The Doctor continues and explains that the injections are performed with a multipoint technique and that the needles have a very fine gauge. An approximate amount of 0.3 ml is used in total. He also tells us that hyaluronic acid improves the vaginal mucosa or rejuvenates the labia majora by giving them volume. However, remember that hyaluronic acid is resorbable so you will have to repeat the treatment every year to maintain the results.

Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is an intervention that treats the labia of the vulva to improve their appearance and treat pain.

  • Labia majora augmentation

With age, the labia majora tend to lose elasticity and volume. To remedy this, you can perform injections of hyaluronic acid, as Dr. Ramírez Bosca says. Injections are made in the mid-deep dermis along the labia majora, up to the mons pubis, after previous local anesthesia. The Doctor tells us that generally 1 ml is injected per lip, but it depends on each patient. You will be able to resume normal activity when you leave your doctor’s office. The results are immediate and last for approximately 1 year, after which time you will have to repeat the injections.

  • Labia minora reduction

If instead, you suffer from excessively large labia minora, which can arise due to childbirth, you can resort to a reduction labiaplasty. There are two main techniques for performing this procedure; laser and surgery.

The laser is the most used technique in Spain since it allows a quick recovery and better healing. It also allows working under local anesthesia.

The other interventions

Numerous interventions can be added to perform a complete vaginal rejuvenation:

  • Treatment of vaginal dryness: The comments that can also perform injections of PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) for treating vaginal dryness, and hyaluronic acid.
  • G-spot augmentation: You can opt for hyaluronic acid injections or lipofilling to increase the G-spot and significantly improve sexual intercourse.
  • Pubic lift/liposuction of the mons pubis: If you suffer from a loss of skin tone or an excess of localized fat in the pubis, you can opt for liposuction to tighten the skin and rejuvenate the intimate area as a whole.

Risks and complications

All cosmetic surgery interventions carry risks and complications, so we always advise you to go to a specialized, experienced, and certified doctor. Among the various risks associated with vaginal rejuvenation, we include:

  • burns (due to misuse of the laser)
  • bruises
  • the disunity of the stitches
