We are talking about AOD or Always On Display, a technology that Samsung released in 2016 and that has been available on many devices since then. Now Apple seems to have found the key to implementing this technology in its iPhone. And like everything in the Cupertino company, he brings controversy under his arm.

iPhones will finally have Always On Display

For users who are not familiar with this technology, they should know that it was implemented in 2016 by Samsung. This keeps part of the screen always on to show details such as the time, date, or notification. Even when you don’t touch the device, it has part of the screen on.

The feature does not affect energy consumption too much thanks to the AMOLED panels. These keep all the pixels off except a few that display the information. Thanks to this system the expense are considerably reduced and a great feature is offered to the user.

Current reports say that Apple will include this technology in the iPhone, about 6 years after it was released on Android phones. The iPhone will use its LTPO technology and the adaptive refresh rate to minimize energy consumption.

When the iPhone screen displays information such as the time or notifications, it will lower the Hz to the minimum amount of 1 Hz. This, added to the blackout of the rest of the pixels, will reduce consumption. It seems incredible that Apple only took 6 years to realize that it could implement something like this.

The controversy with the AOD in the iPhone is served

The report not only talks about the novelty of Always On Display on iPhones but also about the models that will be compatible. As can be read on Bloomberg, only the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will be able to use AOD.

Why? Reference is made to the hardware limitations of the rest of the devices. That is, the iPhone 14 for 800 euros will not be able to have Always On Display, only the iPhone 14 Pro of 1,149 euros or the Pro Max of 1,249 euros. Curiously, mid-range mobiles are capable of implementing it and Apple can only do it in devices of more than 1,000 euros.
