Huawei Watch GT Active Edition: we tested the Huawei smartwatch and this is our opinion

Taking advantage of the launch of the Huawei P30 and the Huawei P30 Pro, Huawei has just released two new smartwatches, the Huawei Watch GT Active Edition, and the Huawei Watch GT Elegant Edition.

Thanks to Huawei Peru we have had the opportunity to test the Huawei Watch GT Active Edition for a few days, before its official launch, and in this review, you will know our opinion about the smartwatch.

We started the review talking about the presentation of the Huawei Watch GT Active Edition, which comes in a square black box that has the Huawei logo and the name of the device in golden letters.

Once the case of the Huawei Watch GT Active Edition is open, we can appreciate the smartwatch in all its splendor. In addition to the smartwatch, the box comes with a charging base with two pins, a USB type C cable and a couple of manuals.

Inspecting the Huawei Watch GT Active Edition closely we note that it is made of stainless steel and has a size of 46mm. It also has an AMOLED HD screen of 1.39 “with a resolution of 454 x 454.

On the back of the smartwatch, we can see two pins that will allow us to charge the Huawei Watch GT Active Edition, as well as two sensors and two LEDs to measure our heart rate.

The strap, on the other hand, is made of silicone and is very comfortable. In case you do not like the color and want to change the belt, you can easily remove it by sliding a small hook.

For the smartwatch to start working, we will have to link it with our smartphone. It does not matter if your phone is not Huawei, you only have to fulfill two requirements: have installed the Huawei Health application and use an operating system superior to Android 4.4 KitKat or iOS 9.

Most smartphones currently meet these requirements, so there will be no compatibility issues. Once the Huawei Health application is installed, we will have to open it to link our smartphone with the Huawei Watch GT Active Edition.

If we did it correctly, we would notice that the screen of the Huawei Watch GT Active Edition will light up and we will see a clock with its handles. To access the rest of the options, we will slide the screen or press the two buttons.

If we slide the screen of the Huawei Watch GT Active Edition, we can obtain information such as our heart rate, time and how much physical activity we have performed on the day.

In the Huawei Watch GT Active Edition, we also find a compass, stopwatch, timer, alarm, flashlight and an option that allows you to plan exercise routines and monitor your physical activity.

You can plan different types of exercises such as running outdoors, indoors, riding a bike, both traditional and stationary, and swimming in the pool or the beach and the smartwatch will give you information in real time.

About autonomy, since I started using the smartwatch I have not needed to charge it; however, it is recommended to do it once a week, although this may vary.

If you deactivate most functions of the Huawei Watch GT Active Edition and you only keep the clock, then the battery can last for several weeks.

Likewise, the smartwatch always saves energy, since the brightness of the screen adapts to the environment in which you find yourself and also switches off if you are not looking at it and it lights up when you do it.

During the period in which it was tested, the Huawei Watch GT Active Edition was an excellent device, which is ideal for those who practice sports or who by health should monitor their physical activity.

The smartwatch is very comfortable, nothing heavy and easy to configure, its functions are elementary and not as complicated as they seem, it’s just a matter of getting used to them, and you’ll get a lot out of them.

Something exciting and beneficial of the Huawei Watch GT Active Edition is that it allows you to have your cell phone notifications on the smartwatch screen, this in case you can not use the phone for any reason.

Huawei Peru revealed that the pre-sale of the Huawei Watch GT Active Edition in Peru would begin as of March 28 in Claro, Movistar, and Entel.
