We discuss the significance of this fabled beast in The Mandalorian universe.
The Mandalorian‘s third season is now available on Disney+, and as more chapters have been released, more questions have arisen, one of which is why is the mythosaur so important?
However, he first debuted in the Star Wars world in the 1980 film The Empire Strikes Back, as Boba Fett, who donned the symbol of a horned figure, a reference to what we saw in Chapter 18, in the Mandalore mines, when a live mythosaur is seen.
That beast was tamed by Mandalore the Great in ancient times, hence the mythosaur was chosen as a symbol indicating the bearer is a genuine Mandalorian, as it has appeared at various times in the Star Wars universe.
According to the Star Wars Expanded Universe, mythosaurs were a creature endemic to Mandalore and were predators, with some growing to the size of an entire city, making their strength a target for the Mandalorians.
After taming and employing them in warfare, the Mandalorians eventually extincted this species, and everything became a legend, leading even some Mandalorians to disbelieve that it ever existed.
But, aside from being a legend and being proven for the first time in the third season of Disney+’s The Mandalorian, the mythosaur is vital to the Mandalorians since it is a symbol of the entire race, and for this reason, the insignia of Mythosaur’s skull is considered so precious. Additionally, predictions refer to the mythosaur’s return as Mandalore’s rebirth, therefore its arrival foreshadows a new generation of Mandalorians. Three chapters of The Mandalorian’s third season are already available on Disney+.
