Warner Bros. in talks with Lady Gaga to co star in Joker 2
The Warner Bros. studio is negotiating with actress and singer Lady Gaga to co-star with Joaquin Phoenix in the musical film ” Joker: Folie à Deux ” —also known as ” Joker 2 “—, The Hollywood Reporter revealed exclusively on Monday.
Gaga would play Harley Quinn, the Joker’s partner in madness in this sequel to a musical cut that, like the first film, will also be directed by Todd Phillips.
After the box office success of ” Joker ” (2019), with which Warner Bros. pocketed more than a billion dollars for its projections around the world, the DC Comics franchise wanted to give a blow and bet on this new film.
In this way, the rumors that had arisen last week, after the publication on Instagram of Phillips with the cover of the script of the new film, about the possibility of including the character of Harley Quinn, materialize.
Harley Quinn first appeared in “Batman: The Animated Series” in the early 90s and will now join Joker for the adventure “Folie à Deux” (“Madness of Two”, in Spanish), which refers to a disorder in which two or more people share psychiatric symptoms, usually delusions.
More details are still unknown about the contract that Lady Gaga would sign if she agreed to join the project and if she would also contribute a song to the soundtrack of the tape.
Gaga has already worked with Phillips in “A Star Is Born”, a film in which he participated as a producer and which earned the singer an Oscar nomination for best actress.
For his part, after the announcement of the release of this new film last week, it was also confirmed that Joaquin Phoenix will play the Joker for the second time, the role of villain that allowed him to win the Oscar for best actor in 2020.
As it is recalled, “Joker” ends with Arthur Fleck in the Arkham asylum, apparently escaping from a therapy session and leaving traces of blood in his wake. In addition, the tape reveals the connection of the main character with the Wayne family and even includes a scene in which Arthur (Joaquin Phoenix) meets a young Bruce Wayne, which could lead to a story of revenge.
Last September, the Daily Mirror claimed that Warner had offered Phoenix $50 million to bring Arthur back to life not only in a sequel but also in a possible third installment. “It’s still being negotiated, but the scripts are being written and Joaquin is very committed to it,” a source told the tabloid.
“They plan to do two sequels in the next four years, with a long-term commitment to Joaquin and his director, Todd Phillips, and producer Bradley Cooper. It’s about getting Joaquin to agree to terms and the biggest salary of his career by far. ” “, added the informant.
