The Walking Dead released the second third of eight episodes of season 11 in October 2021 and it ran until the end of February. The date of the third and last part with which a total of 24 deliveries will be completed, is yet to be confirmed. Meanwhile, broadcast network AMC and the hit franchise are preparing to release an upcoming anthology spinoff called Tales of the Walking Dead.
It was in October 2020, when The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang announced that The Walking Dead franchise would develop the third spin-off Tales of the Walking Dead. Filming began in early 2022 and will feature a total of 6 episodes, which will focus on new and existing characters, who were part of the original series’ past stories.
The new series will delve into the backstories of the characters. One of them is well known to fans of The Walking Dead. Alpha, the leader of The Whisperers played by Samantha Morton, will be returning to the walker universe and is currently the only familiar face in the spin-off.
Meanwhile, in addition to Morton, the previously announced Tales of the Walking Dead cast includes Terry Crews, Olivia Munn, Anthony Edwards, Daniella Pineda, Poppy Liu, Parker Posey, Jillian Bell, Jessie T. Usher, and Danny Ramirez. So far, their characters have not been revealed, but more details are expected when the release date is getting closer. The franchise has also not revealed which other characters belonging to the universe will return.
Tales of the Walking Dead opens this summer 2022 through the AMC chain and on the AMC+ streaming platform. However, the network has not revealed the specific date that the new spinoff will begin airing with its six standalone stories. The franchise is also developing other projects that will appear on the screen in 2023.
The franchise, inspired by the work written by Robert Kirkman, also plans to launch a spin-off series next year focused on Maggie and Negan, the characters of Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan who will be present in a new story far from Atlanta. Norman Reedus’ character Daryl Dixon is also getting a spin-off, however, neither AMC nor The Walking Dead’s chief content officer Scott Gimple hasn’t revealed enough details.
