The paper house is one of the great successes of Netflix and its creator, the Spanish Álex Pina, goes for more. Apart from working on a spin-off of the series, he is behind a new production, this time based on the pandemic.

The platform announced that Pina renewed her creative agreement, now for a fiction project about the proliferation of bunkers due to confinement.

Pina spoke in the Netflix statement about the idea of the production, of which the title is not yet known. Its basis was an article published last October.

“Some of the new shelters that were being built were luxury homes in the basement,” he says. “Up to 15 floors below, with exclusive services such as cinema, swimming pool, spa, gym and communal gardens. With water and food to survive more than five years”.

Pina continues in the statement: “An underground community for 75 people. And then we thought about what life would be like there. Social, family, romantic relationships, in an underground shelter to which they had rushed and exclusively fled.”

Just as there is no title yet, there is also no release date. We have to wait for more information about it.

Netflix keeps betting high on Pina

Diego Ávalos, vice president of Netflix content in Spain and Portugal, spoke about what the renewal of the agreement with Pina means.

“We are very excited to continue accompanying Álex Pina and his team. It is a benchmark for fiction, innovative and creative, which has inspired fans and creators around the world”.

“After the great adventure that La casa de Papel has been, we are excited to continue being a home for him, Vancouver (Vancouver Media, Pina’s production company) and all the stories that are yet to come,” Ávalos said, noting that there will be a spin-off on the character of Berlin in 2023.

The development of Álex Pina, the father of La casa de Papel

Álex Pina was born in Pamplona in 1967, and in addition to being the brains behind La casa de papel, he is in Vis a Vis, Los Serrano, Periodista and Los hombres de Paco, to name a few of the most successful.

The Pier and White Lines are two of his most recent creations. He is currently in-depth in the production of the third part (final) of Sky Rojo, in addition to the writing of the spin-off of Berlin, the character of La casa de Papel.

In cinema, he has produced Brain Drain and its sequel, Three Meters Above Heaven, I Want You and Kamikaze.

The paper house, with five seasons, is a police series that was born with eight thieves taking hostages in the National Currency and Stamp Factory of Spain.
