Following the arrest of Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan in an alleged drug case, actor Pooja Bhatt encouraged people to reconsider that alcohol is also a narcotic.
“Alcohol is a drug as well.” It is not classified as such because it is considered socially acceptable by the majority of people. Alcohol abuse leaves a trail of destruction in its wake. Accidents on the road, domestic violence, bankruptcy, families shattered, and lives lost. Bhatt tweeted, “The focus should be on rehabilitation, not criminalization.”
Several social media users concurred with Pooja and voiced their opinions.
“Most people believe that alcohol drowns their concerns and anxieties,” one Twitter user commented, “but they forget that troubles can swim.”
“Unfortunately, instead of rehabilitation, the focus is on criminalization. The most astounding reality is that drug victims or addicts face the same penalties as drug traffickers. Our laws concerning drugs and narcotics also have flaws. Another person tweeted, “We must also focus on that.”
Bhatt was one of the few Bollywood stars who had previously spoken frankly about her alcoholism.
She has been outspoken about her alcoholism and the battle she has waged to be sober. She will have achieved four years of abstinence in December 2020.
