Amber Heard wants to get rid of the millionaire compensation she has to pay Johnny Depp: this is her strategy

If a few days ago it came to light that Amber Heard’s lawyers had launched a new legal offensive to try to annul the verdict that determined, in early June, that her client had defamed her ex-husband, Johnny Depp, through a opinion article published in The Washington Post, now the lawyers have registered a motion that directly questions the punishment that was imposed on the interpreter: pay her former husband compensation of around 10 million dollars.

As can be seen from the documents to which the Radar Online news portal has had access, the legal team of the ‘Aquaman’ actress maintains that the aforementioned article, from 2018, did not have significant effects on the reputation of Johnny Depp, to difference from what he defended in the lawsuit he filed against his ex-wife. In the opinion of the lawyers, based on the testimonies offered by the Hollywood star himself in court, his prestige and personal image were already seriously damaged two years earlier, when Amber requested a restraining order against him as a result of the already known accusations of physical and psychological abuse.

“There is no evidence to show that the damage to Mr. Depp’s reputation was caused by Ms. Heard’s op-ed. Mr. Depp testified that the damage to his reputation stemmed from the temporary domestic violence restraining order. That order was issued in May 2016, as a result of their separation. And he cannot receive any compensation for it, “says an excerpt from the defense argument.

In this way, Amber Heard and her lawyers intend to reopen a case that, according to the judge who handled the previous process, Penney Azcarate, was already definitively closed. Earlier this week, the actress’s legal team filed a motion that delegitimized the verdict, based in her opinion on a mere “theory of implication”, and that warned of an alleged irregularity related to a member of the jury, whose identity and date of birth had not been properly verified. Azcarate, according to judicial sources, has no intention of convening a new period of oral hearings.
