Actor Kevin Spacey is charged with four counts of sexual assault and one count of sexual abuse in the UK alone. The last of the crimes mentioned only differs from the previous ones in that the alleged victim, according to judicial sources, was not physically forced to have sexual relations with the interpreter, although he would have been involved without her consent in interactions that implied penetration.

The Hollywood star went on Thursday to the Westminster Magistrates Court in London for a preliminary hearing in which the artist has preferred not to plead guilty or innocent of those practices of which he is accused. Likewise, the judge has ruled that the American must remain on provisional liberty, without the need for bail, until the celebration, on July 14, of another preparatory session in the Southwark Crown Court, to which those cases related to crimes of special gravity and that can only be resolved with criminal consequences involved.

More specifically, Spacey will have to answer to justice for having assaulted a man twice, events that would have taken place in London in 2005. In the same way, he is accused of having assaulted another man, who is currently about 30 years old, in August 2008 and also in the British capital. The latest of the alleged crimes of this nature is linked to an April 2013 encounter in Gloucestershire, and the alleged victim is a man in his 30s. As far as the accusation of abuse is concerned, the magistrates will have to pay special attention to the circumstances in which the event occurred and to hypothetical misunderstandings between the parties.

That the inappropriate and potentially criminal behavior of Kevin Spacey has reached the judicial level is the result, among other things, of the hard investigative work carried out by the London Metropolitan Police since 2017, when the first testimonies began to emerge about the character supposedly actor’s predator.

All this is part of a global movement, embodied by campaigns such as #MeToo and Time’s Up, which generalized the denunciation of authoritarian and sexually abusive behavior perpetrated by powerful men in the film industry. The former Midas king of Hollywood, producer Harvey Weinstein, is currently serving a 23-year prison sentence for numerous sexual offenses, including rape, and will now have to face similar accusations also coming from London.
