Season 2 of ‘The Witcher’ will be available on Netflix tonight

There’s no harm in taking a break before the craziness of silly season begins like never before. After all, replenishing those serotonin stores and alleviating hangover bloating are critical components to properly playing the long game lengthy sesh. Anticipating this hyper-specific healing time months in advance, Netflix set a December 17th (i.e. tonight in Australia) release date for The Witcher season 2, which promises to keep you busy until Monday morning.

Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill), Princess Cirilla “Ciri” of Cintra (Freya Allen), and Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) return to continue bringing Andrzej Sapkowski’s acclaimed fantasy tales to life. When we last left the series in season 1 – which concluded in the Battle of Sodden Hill – Geralt and Ciri finally met after years of fate bringing them along their individual paths.

“It’s a story of a father and daughter coming together in a place that doesn’t quite feel safe for them,” showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich reveals, referring to Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia and Allen’s Princess Ciri of Cintra.

“Of course, we really get into Nivellen, who is performed by the amazing Kristofer Hivju, and we get to explore his character as well as his background with Geralt.”

“Because it’s about family, it’s the right way to start season two.” It’s about the secrets we hold from one other, and it’s about the monsters we sometimes become within.”

The official description from Netflix gives some further information about what worldwide fans may expect this weekend:

“I would argue that The Witcher Season 1 is all about building bricks.” “It’s about building the universe, setting up these people, placing them on pathways, then knocking those dominoes down,” Hissrich continues.

“When you get to The Witcher season 2, all of those elements start to come into play, which is that people begin to encounter each other — sometimes getting along, sometimes not.” All of the various countries that you hardly hear about in season 1 – Geralt and Yennefer, Geralt and Ciri, Yennefer and Ciri – start coming to the surface in season 2.”

“In some ways, the narrative is a bit more intense, and maybe a little more concentrated and driven in the travels that we’re telling in season 2.”

The Witcher season 2, all eight episodes will be available on Netflix on December 17th at 7:00 PM [AEDT] (Australian release date).
